Home Network – pfSense,HP 1810-48G, UniFi UAP-AC-PRO

When I upgraded pfSense to the latest version, it failed to reboot and acted as if nothing was on the hard drive. It took me a while to reconfigure the whole home network. I decided to document to refer to when the upgrade fails next time.

I’ve kept my home network simple.

pfSense
I’ve been using pfSense for a while. I’m running pfSense on a custom box. pfSense is an open source software and currently I am using it as a router, firewall, and IDS/IPS. I am still exploring its capability.

HP 1810-48G switch
Fully managed switch and fan less. I bough this switch as it does not produce an noise.

Wifi
Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO WAP. Since the HP switch non-POE, I had to buy Ubiquiti PoE Adpater to power the WAP.

I will be adding the images of some of the configuration on pfense and HP Siwtch

pfSence Configurations

create VLANs and associate with interfaces
create firewall rules – shown above for Wifi VLAN

Enable DHCP on the interfaces/VLANs

HP 1810 – 48G Switch

Web GUI console can be access via using the browser http://192.168.2.10 which is the default IP. In may case I have changed the IP of web GUI console to 192.168.4.10. Make sure to change the IP of host PC (laptop) connecting to the switch to the same subnet e.g. 192.168.4.12/24

create VLANs to match the pfSense VLANs
